In Lviv the "Telephone of Confidence 058 "Stavropyghion"" that works 24 hours a day started its work since November 1 1997.
  The service is still the only in the kind in Ukraine that works 24 hours a day on the voluntary basis and on the principles of the classic telephone of confidence services of the international organizations of the telephone counseling.
  "Telephone of Confidence 058 "Stavropyghion" is working closely with Ukrainian association of Psychotherapists and is the member of the Ukrainian association of the Telephone Counselors. Taking into consideration the necessity of such a service in Ukraine and our successes in July 1999 our service became the member of the international organization "Befrienders International" (international organization that coordinates and unites Telephones of Confidence allover the world).
  The "Telephone of Confidence 058 "Stavropyghion" has the professional connections with the service "Crisis Line International" (the manager - Sister Mary Fancies Silley) - organization that unites the US crisis lines, provides consulting, training and certification on the topic of telephone consulting and suicidology), analogical services in Poland, New Zealand. We do have also the partnership relationships with the service of the telephone consulting from the city Norwich (UK).
  The "Telephone of Confidence 058 "Stavropyghion" was founded due to the financial support of the International Renaissance Foundation (the program "Awakening" as the structural part of the Charity Foundation "Stavropyghion".
  The only constant "sponsor" of the "Telephone of Confidence 058 "Stavropyghion" is the Lviv Regional Clinical Psychiatric Hospital that is giving us the premise for the service and is paying for it.
  The "Telephone of Confidence 058 "Stavropyghion" is working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on two channels. The telephone is the anonymous and confidential. The psychological help is provided by the volunteers and is free of charge.
  Our service is providing the primarily psychological help through the telephone. This help is addressed to people, that are in the state of psychological crisis, distress or despair and aims the suicide prevention.
  Everyone who will turn for help to the service will be listened by the volunteers that will express deep understanding of the callers' problems. The content of the telephone conversation is kept is secret. The consultants guarantee the anonymity and confidentiality of the caller. The place of situation of the service is also anonymous.
  The work of the consultants is provided on the voluntary basis and all of them have to pass the special training and professional selection. Their aim is to help people to overcome the crisis by listening them very attentively and to try to find the possibilities to solve the problem the caller have turned with together, if it's needed to turn the caller to the special service.
  The service TCS is helping everyone, not depending from nationality, sex, age or religion of the caller.
  The consulters have no right to make any press on the caller - ideological, religious or moral.
  The activity of the "Telephone of Confidence 058 "Stavropyghion" was attested by the international experts from the telephone consulting (Sister Mary Francis Sealey (USA), Norman Keir (UK), Alexander Mokhovikov (Ukraine).
  Each month the volunteers are answering in average 600 - 800 of calls that make 24 calls per 24 hours, 3 % of which are the calls from the people that would like to commit suicide.
  The general amount of the calls annually: 1998 - 8845, 1999 - 7631, 2000 - 7598, 2001 - 8932.
  People make the highest amount of the calls with the problems in the sphere of the interpersonal relationships.
